📝 Explanation

たくさん is a quantity word in Japanese that means “a lot” or “many.” It’s often used when talking about how much of something there is or how much of something you did.

🧩 How to Use たくさん

You can place たくさん before the noun or after the particle を.

  • Pattern 1: Noun + を + たくさん + Verb
    • Example:
      🍣 お寿司をたくさん食べました。
I ate a lot of sushi.
  • Pattern 2: たくさん + Noun + を + Verb
    • Example:
      🍣 たくさんお寿司を食べました。
I ate a lot of sushi.

💡 Both are correct and sound natural in daily speech. Choose whichever flows better with the rest of your sentence.

🧩 Describing Existence with あります・います

Used for saying “there is/are a lot of ___” with things (あります) or people/animals (います). You can put たくさん after the particle が or before the noun, both are fine!

  • Example A:
    友だちがたくさんいます。
I have a lot of friends.
    荷物がたくさんあります。There’s a lot of luggage.
  • Example B:
    たくさん友だちがいます。I have many friends.
    たくさん荷物があります。There’s a lot of luggage.

📝 Notes:

  • たくさん is an adverb. You don’t need a particle after it.
  • Works with both countable and uncountable things.
  • You can use たくさんの + noun for a more formal or descriptive style:
    • たくさんの人が来ました (A lot of people came)
